Or should I just stick to mt + tar ?Tar is ubiquitous, so it's easy to get the data off on an other system. I tend not to rely on "backup solutions" if I can get away with it. If you're doing incremental backups, that's a slightly different story, but if you're backing up a data directory or some collection of directories, I'd recommend tar wrapped in a tight little shell script.
