[LUG] CDaudio problems

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Does anyone have some idea why my laptop plays all manner of sounds at max
volume EXCEPT CD audio which always plays so quietly that I can hardly hear
it over the fan! (MP3's can drown out the TV with ease).

It's a laptop, RedHat 7.2, kmix set to max volume on all sliders, XMMS and
gtcd also at 100%. The CD drive plays at a really incredible volume under M$
so it is capable of it, it's not just a question of the small laptop speakers.

Any ideas?
Where do I start looking?

(P.S. I've found drivers for TWO Winmodems now, (second one about to be
tested), so just having a PCI internal modem is not as much of a problem as
it has been - take a look at linmodems.org, download scanModem and see if
there is a driver.)
