parted has made a real mess of this drive. The 1Gb is now allocated to the /boot partition but df still reports the original 50Mb size, not the (pointless) 1.05Gb size that is reported using the Hardware Browser in Gnome and using parted print. That 1Gb should be part of hda3 not hda2.do it. Try resizing different partitions, and moving. You should of course be using parted from a bootdisk. I remember seeing RH8 installer with it. Just ctrl+alt+f2 and parted /dev/hda
Simon's tip helped - after downloading the images (boot and parted itself) I couldn't get dd to work but the readme on the parted site helped. I was trying to copy to /mnt/floppy, changing to /dev/fd0 allowed the entire image to be written properly. The parted readme also notes that the starting cylinder of a ext2 partition cannot be moved, even with a bootdisk. As there wasn't enough room to move the root partition, I shrunk the root partition, extended the extended partition, made a new logical partition for the /boot partition. copied the partition over, deleted the previously primary /boot partition, and resized it to take up the spare 1Gb. Hey presto. (Pity I couldn't merge the two primaries or just resize the root to include the space in front of it.) - -- Neil Williams ============= http://www.codehelp.co.uk/ http://www.dclug.org.uk/ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE9uDW5k7DVr6iX/QIRAjkKAJ9y5die+YgjUt9WbBWIP5xb/fCncQCfTvrc /knMNmQe1oWGx566SCE6LEY= =XI4c -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
