Blackdown JAVA is always a good bet,Strangely enough that is what SUN documentation use to say, wonder if it has changed.
When Sun first released Java they only supported and produced JVM's and SDK's for Sun boxes, and Microsoft Windows. Linux at that time (five/six years ago?) did not figure in their thinking. This prompted a number of Open Source projects to start with the aim of developing a Linux JVM and SDK. Blackdown was one of the most popular, even winning sanction from Sun at the time if you wanted to run on Linux. I would guess these are the Sun document references you refer to. Then a few years back Sun went Linux friendly probably when they noticed it's uptake among US corporations, and realized that it also made a really great stick to beat Microsoft with, and started producing their own Java SDK for Linux. With Sun creating and certifying Java it seems safe to assume that their distribution is likely to be the safest and most stable to use. Apologies to those of you who know the story, just thought a potted history might help clear up any confusion.
