I managed to sort Mozilla out by editing/etc/mozilla/prefs.js andadding another prefs line for truetype fontspointing to the new fontsdirectory. This having previously sorted out kde.It seems myinstallation of Deb3 is running Xft font server tohandle truetype fontsso I edited /etc/X11/XftConfig to add a line totell it the location ofthe new fonts directory then restarted X and kdewas happy to show meall my truetype fonts. Its easy when you're sober :)I tried to edit the equivalent file to do the same as per instructions from a webpage I found but I can't edit the file since the permissions are set for root only and the only way I can get su stuff to work is on a terminal using sudo.
Have to admit i have never used sudo and don't quite know what it is about. My normal method of editing root owned files is to issue the su command in a terminal and then use a console based text editor (in my case vim) to edit the file. An alternative (if you are using KDE) is to select the "system" - "file manager - super user mode" menu option, give the root password, find the file and edit it with a gui editor (right button).
