Hmm, yeah, not sure what you mean by Open Source exactly, I'm guessing you really mean 'free' (as in beer)? In which case, look out for encyclopedias on the front of magazines, I used to have several, including Grolier. I have a feeling I have a 'real' copy of Microsoft Encarta from a few years back that you are welcome to (if I can find it). Closest I can think of to an "Open Source" encyclopedia is http://www.h2g2.com - not *exactly* an encyclopedia I guess, but an interesting site nonetheless - it's a bit like a small version of the Internet, but in a more organised and easily editable form. Check it out... Sorry I can't be of more use! Jon On Friday 09 August 2002 12:05, you wrote:
Don't have an Open Source one, but I have a copy of the 1996 Hutchinson Multimedia Encyclopadia... runs under Wine... and Windows 3.1... Probably not much use? I know there are plenty of web based offerings, but I am looking for CD-ROM based content that can be used in areas where internet links are difficult / too expensive. Text based content would be useful for even lower spec machines, although pictures and diagrams are good for extra clarity. Anyone got any suggestions ? Tom.
