Re: [LUG] Business Software Recomendations

These Sage-like systems do seem rather over the top for a guest house.
Unless yours is exceptionally large, a simple multi-page spreadsheet
will do the trick.

hi there,

if the guest house is to be a registered business and not just cash-in-hand then i don't think a spreadsheet would be cost-effective.

there are legal requirements for submitting accounts, banks will want to know cash-flows, money owed/owing, currently equity etc. etc. dull. etc.

also, on the plus side, if registered for VAT then VAT on purchases can be claimed back.

you can let an accountant/manager do all this for you - but they're not cheap.

sorry to be a bit boring about this - but hopefully this will be of some help. if it all comes off post the name of the guest house up to the list - newquay is a favourite break for me and my OH,

PS - sql-ledger is open source and therefore.... free!

I'm based in Newquay. Email me off list if you'd like to have a chat about setting up such a system.

try www.sql-ledger.org - it is a full accounts package like sage.

it is web-based and can handle UK VAT etc.

you could probably set up your own machine to run it locally - or if you would like it securely run on a web server get in touch,
