so how do you get linux on a i386 25Mhz with only 4Mb of ram, 85Mb HDD, NO

There is a 4mb laptop HOWTO which would maybe be applicable. But I would
not bother, it is *not* worth your time(or the time of someone trying to
make use it). A lot of optimization and fiddling around needs to happen
to make the damn thing remotely usable.

So here's my moral dilemma do I turn a blind eye to my "Free software"
philosophy (and technically breaking the law) and ship the laptop with M$
win 3.1 or do I supply it with Slackware 3.3 but without any GUI support,
with no training / support which doesn't show the "Free Software" offerings
in there best light ?

This is not an issue with Free software. This is the issue with the
hardware. Show free software in its best light by explaining its
ideologies and what it is striving to do. A fight to the death with the
menace(M$) to capitalism !! :)

Some of my best learning experiences with computers happened with a
piece of chalk and a black board.

Don't get me wrong ... There's no love lost between myself and M$, but when
your attempting to supply computers to a school where the average class size
is 64 and the nearest they get to a computer is the 10 to 20 Peso / hr
internet cafe (lunch or computer access take your pick) you can see why I
want to make sure they get the best out of whatever I can afford to send
them !

New computers are cheap. Old computers are junk. Send a new
computer.

haha. good intentions indeed. wireless p2p will serve you better, but if
i was a poor kid, i would run as fast as i could with two or three
laptops under my arm.
