Here is RM's reaction in a mail he just sent me
RM's reactions are notorious, I wouldn't even bother trying to continue the conversation. If you want a commercial firewall product there are others around, if you want a GPL'ed one than IPCop seems to be the way to go. I think by dropping GPL for the software they just lost their unique selling point, if you want a commercial firewall product from a company that has contributed well to Linux development then I can sell you one ;) Both IPCop and Smoothwall products had security issues based on attacks from inside or those who can get at the admin interface. Whether this is better or worse than commercial products is hard to judge, I haven't yet had a play with the "ISP managed filewall" solution from WatchGuard product with would supply the tools to get inside WatchGuard and figure out how solid or otherwise the innards are. I think it is possible to poke around inside FW-1 installations, so that might offer some comparison. -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
