Yet if I logout and reboot the system still cannot be booted from the HD. It looks to me as if something has got screwed up on hda1
what errors do you get when it fails to boot? i'm *guessing* it's probably some funky error with ext2 on hda1 and the disk needs to be checked/fixed - in which case e2fuck is your friend, though debian will do this automatically if the disk is foobargled (unless it's reaaally foobared and can't even run it), dunno about SuSE..? other thigns that may have gone tits up is a screwed superblock (in which case you'll probably get an error sometyhing like "panic: unable to mount root FS on xx:xx"), or something odd to break the boot sector (in which case lilo wont even run), i do't think i've ever seen anyhtign else from a cold powerdown... Another reason to use ext3... :p ~ Theo, who is just about to pass out.. coffeeeeeeee - -- Theo Zourzouvillys http://zozo.org.uk/ Q: What do you have when you have a lawyer buried up to his neck in sand?
