I mention this purely as an item of possible interest: I`ve just done level 1 of the Linux Professional Institute certification programme. I am aware that qualifications such as this are not worth a whole lot but I feel that there are a few benefits: 1. If your employer has a contractual obligation to encourage self-development, this is quite a good one to do because it is very cheap (GBP100 for the exam) and won`t gobble up their budget. That`s how I did it. 2. The requirements of the course force you comprehensively to cover areas that you might not otherwise address. 3. On a personal level, you can find out whether you are any good or not ;) 4. (Possibly) indicates to a future employer a willingness to learn etc. The LPI is (sort of) an Open Source project, insofar as an examination can be; it is compiled by a community effort and you are invited to contribute improvements at the end. More information can be found at: http://www.lpi.org/ If anyone has any interest in this, please feel free to mail me off-list. I can let you have names of people to contact to sort out an exam, point you in the direction of some really good training materials (O`Reilly, IBM etc.) and maybe pass on a couple of tips about what *not* to revise (anything vendor-specific or GUI based, notably). Nice day today. MB. -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
