Hi, Sorry, forgot to mention. There's a FAQ on the tex faq list specifically about quality of pdf from (la)tex, something to do with using fonts optimised for cheap printers rather than pdf. On recent (la)tex dists. you should use -Ppdf as a switch, on earlier ones I think its -Ppmz or similar (check the FAQ, which is painfully slow). Also, www.ps2pdf.com lets you do online conversions, assuming you have optimised ps files.
