If you dont have scsi support in your kernel then that would be a problem !!! check what modules you have loaded. What distro are you using ? and what kernel ? As regards to the mount command it should look something like: mount -t vfat /dev/sda /mnt/usb with spaces between /dev/sda and /mnt/usb. I will send you the line from my fstab if you think it would help you ?? good luck On Tue, 12 Feb 2002 07:52:31 -0000 Bob Sarah <wychcraft@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:
Not working yet. I put in /etc/fstab /dev/sda /mnt/usb vfat and created /mnt/usb rebooted and entered mount -t vfat/dev/sda/mnt/usb no complaint from linux but nothing in /mnt/usb either. Not sure if you intended a space between sda and /mnt/usb but linux didn't like one. I don't think I have SCSI support installed which could be the problem. What and where is USBView? tia Bob ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rich Smith" <Richard.J.Smith@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <list@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, February 08, 2002 12:10 PM Subject: Re: [LUG] Usb HDDMine is a Disgo USB pendrive and as I said in my previous mail it mounts not a problem in 2.4 kernels. I seem to remember Linux format having a couple of articles, one small one about USB cameras (just 1 page) which covered all I neeeded to mount my drive. And then one bigger cover article about general USB (both about 2/3 months ago). How have you tried to mount the drive ?, i just use mount -t vfat /dev/sda /mnt/usb. Are you getting any error messgaes in particular ?? and have you looked at the output from USBView ? Hope this is a little bit of help On Fri, 8 Feb 2002 08:04:27 -0000 Bob Sarah <wychcraft@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:I have the same problem. On Mandrake 8.0 mount$ displays (amongst other lines) /proc/bus/usb on /proc/bus/usb type usbdevfs (rw, devmode= 0664,devgid=43)but that is as far as I can get. At www.mandrakeuser.org/docs/admin/amount.html there is quite a lot ofinfoabout mounting devices including removable media but nothing I couldfindabout usb connected drives. The info by Brad Harts at http://www.linux-usb.org/USB-guide/book1.htmlisinformative but is about a year old (kernel rev 2.4.0-test9) and coverslotsof usb gadjets but not ours. There are quite a few gadjets out there found on the net and no standard name - usb flash disc - www.cpc.co.uk disc on a key - www.m-sys.com Ours by Copera is called a usb hard drive disc and claims 'no driver is required for Linux 2.4.0' I phoned the mail order supplier and they are trying to find the Taiwan maker's URL for me:-) Let us know if you have solved the problem ----- Original Message ----- From: "lee quick" <leequick@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <list@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, February 05, 2002 9:36 PM Subject: [LUG] Usb HDDEvening all has anyone had any experience with Usb drives, i have just got hold of a 32meg pen drive but have no idea how to access it from within linux? The drive has been detected on my usb hub, and i have the required2.4+kernel needed for the drive but apart from knowing its there im a bit lost as to what to put in the fstab file if i put anything in there atall.would normally try to solve this problem myself but several google searches have come up blank. any clues would be appreciated, going to see if my mainboard supports booting from flash memory devices and if so will try to shove a linux system onto the Usb drive! linux where ever i go :) -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.-- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.---------------------- Rich Smith University of Exeter -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.-- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
