Hey all, I've just installed Redmond Linux off of the cover DVD of Linux Format and I must say I'm bloody impressed. Incase you dont know RL is a distro aimed at simplicity of use and people who are more use to Windows, so it probably wont replace your current distro but would be a good starting block for newbies. Its install was sweet detecting all my hardware correctly (including my highpoint raid controller which every other distro has fallen at) you dont get that much configurabiltiy (it is for windows users after all) but everything is set up for you and works from the off, you even get to play solitaire while it installs !!!! It's ceartainly not a replacement for full distro (eg Red Hat/Deb/Slack) but is ceartainly a contender for someone who needs a stable OS that lets them do everyday stuff with their PC. This is a good step forward for Linux on desktops and although it is not as comprehensive as Mandrake (only 1 Gb install) it does what it sets out to do very well, better than mandrake in many cases. Have a look and be impressed http://www.redmondlinux.org Maybe the rumours about AOL & Red Hat were confused and they meant Redmond !!! It would ceartainly do all that AOL would desire from an OS and it super simple to use for the masses. ------------------------------------------------------------- Rich Smith School of Chemistry University of Exeter -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
