If you have ~ 20,000 files in the directory (bash will only allow up to x [4096?] arguments. * might not work in that case either though.)
Once upon a time... I went away for work last week and, I leave my router on with about 30 bounced mails generated cause I was tesing a new exim system - which were designed to bounce, generate an email which bounced, etc. I forgot about it though and came back to find, erm.. Lots of emails (which I couldn't delete), neither ls, * or any shell expansion works after certain ammount, depending on version of lummox, and bash compile settings. The quickest/only way was to write a mini-mini perl script to scan/opendir() and move them. There is a faster way around it, but I can't seem to pull it out of the dark realms of the back of my mind ;) Theo
