Mandrake 8.0, is this the right choice?See this can, well, it's full of worms!
Nice one ;)
I could pick up something better if needed.I'll stand up and say "Redhat for newbies, Debian for pros". I used to be a Suse fan, but it's got on my nerves. Am I right in thinking that Mandrake is an optimised Redhat?
I've installed Mandrake to see what it was like and, yeah, there was no significant difference between that and RedHat, notwithstanding GUI idiosyncracies. I share your thoughts on SuSE, although it is very popular. I am currently using RedHat for laziness (the web etc) and the excellent Debian for learning stuff/programming. As if it bears repeating, the only true answer to this question is to shell out ten quid getting someone to burn you CD1 of a few different distributions and see which one suits your particular personality. FWIW, pretty much everyone seems to switch around from time to time. MB.
