The problem is that most distros set up the COM ports so that COM1 (/dev/ttyS0) and COM3 (/dev/ttyS2) both use irq 4, and since COM3 will generally be your internal modem or possibly a sound card or whatever ... To see what your settings are logon as root and type: setserial /dev/ttyS0 and repeat for .../ttyS1 .../ttyS2 You can use this command to reset the serial port interrupt number on the fly, but really you need to edit one of the startup scripts, which one depends on the distro. > Has anyone any experience with an epson sylus colour 580 under Linux, I've got an Epson Stylus Colour II running OK under Debian via magicfilter and ghostscript. > canon ink costs are 3 times that of the epson, For around 5.85 for a colour > and black ink cart, compatable so it's alot cheaper, esp as the buying a > BC-02 and BC - 05. would cost over £20 for the canon, and £25 for the colour > kit Try getting a refill kit. Then you just keep alternating between two cartridges and buy new ink by the bottle at about £6 a throw.
