xWebHand seems to be about the only attempt at an open source true
wysiwyg html editor i can find - havnt tried it yet.

anyone know of others?

i see IBM have a couple of linux ports of web/html editors. 60 day tial
versions tho! http://www-4.ibm.com/software/webservers/hpbuilder/
also http://www.ektron.com/ have a demo of an app called ewebeditpro.
