[LUG] Meeting in Dawlish

Interesting meeting - perhaps we need some more "focused"
features next time. What do other people think?

I dragged along a laptop, and stuck SuSe 7.2 Professional on it,
but people seemed less interested in yet another distribution
than expected.

The install was smooth, and everything worked till we rebooted,
when we discovered SuSe hadn't done a good job at getting lilo
configured. I turned around to talk to Richard who owns the
Crediton Cybercafe, and when I turned back Mark Evans had sorted
it out. I live in hope of being able to tell people Linux
installs without editting any files by hand, but not quite this
time.

Later I found that I need to "know" I needed Wireless tools, and
that the SuSe 7.2 handling of PCMCIA networking seems to be
brain dead. The Laptop still shows the same problem it had under
Mandrake with the odd bit of corruption of the screen under
XFree 4 - hmmm.

The iwtools bundled with SuSe 7.2 didn't work nicely with the
SuSe 7.2 kernel - it works but iwconfig throws the odd tantrum
when asked for diagnostics. PCMCIA still starts after network in
/etc/init.d/rc5.d (Why is this?), and rc.config looks like it
should define PCMCIA, but doesn't by default (things work better
if you add it in).

Neil explained some interesting stuff about the D&C LUG, but
still doesn't seem to want to do my company site. Still the D&C
LUG web site is in good hands.

Thanks for the explanation, and looking after the site Neil,
should Pharmacy ever take a down turn you can always become a
web designer, you are better than many I know.

We missed the Chip shop closing time, but found a second one
that served till 10PM, such a stunning nightlife Dawlish has,
even in season.

Comment was passed that we should try Plymouth next - maybe we
could persuade TurboLinux at IvyBridge to act as hosts... Now if
only I could recall who offered to host a Barbecue before the
summer is completely over.

	Till next time.....

	Simon
