KOffice or AbiWord or StarOffice. The last one isn't universally rated as the best example of a Linux app you can get but I believe Exeter Uni have made StarOffice available on windoze for students which sounds like someone there must rate it. If you've done lots of clever formatting in Word some of the linux stuff may struggle. Come to think of it, I think even WordPerfect is somehow available for Linux but I don't know the details (like cost or open-ness).
