It doesn't have a CD drive, only floppies (as far as I understand), but it does have a PCMCIA slot with a wireless network card in it. Presumably, assuming the wireless card is linux-compatible, it'd be possible to install linux onto it? Are linux boot floppies, eg. the ones that come with Mandrake, usually compatible with the same network cards as the full OS? I think he's currently trying to get Win98 onto it :-( but if I could tell him how he could get linux onto it, he might give it a try.
