[LUG] NAT/PAT/IP-Masquerade
Quick thing I found out recently! If you say "IP Masquerade" to a
networking person and they go "duhhhh", then tell them it's PAT (Port
Address Translation) under another name.
The difference between PAT and NAT is that NAT tends to use a pool of
addresses and maps a single private address to a single public address
(either statically or dynamically). PAT on the other hand (as we
know) uses a single IP address to represent the entire private network and
does the forwarding based on other IP information (src/dest ports and
addresses).
